Pasty Skin Bible Thumpers vs Chief Illiniwek
Although I am not fully satisfied with the NCAA's progressiveness towards the use of Native American symbols/logos/mascots, this is a good start. It's always funny when supporters of these schools try to justify these long out-dated mascots with words such as 'tradition' and 'honour'. Give me a break.

I was wondering if you had any reasons for your stance on this issue? That is of course not counting your wholesale disdain for people who disagree with you.
I can't say that I hate people that disagree with me, otherwise I'd hate all my friends. Most of which don't agree with me. It's not my fault they're stupid. ;-)
Anyhoo, my reasons for my stance on this whole mascot-issue is due to believing that most of these names/mascots have roots in blatantly racist/stereotypical views. The fact is, most of the logos and mascots are stereotypical caricatures at best. I think Universities, which should be places of progressive thinking, should have no part with promoting these insensitive ideologies.
I'll be honest, I became a big proponent of this and other native rights issues after I backpacked through a bunch of reservations. I don't want to get into all of that, but it was clear to me just how systemic and deep grained the problems really are. Historically, 'the man' really hasn't been that fair/nice to the natives, and it continues today.
